An outstanding ‘Jimmy Watson’ trophy wine.
The Jimmy Watson Trophy was established after Jimmy Watson’s death in 1962 by friends and family. Jimmy ran one of the country’s best wine bars in Lygon Street, Carlton. The wine bar is located just one block from Melbourne University - consequently freinds had no trouble in raising funds from students, academics and business associates to finance the competition for the trophy. Over the years, the trophy awarded for the best one year old red has attracted much controversy. Historically, the big winner of the Jimmy Watson Trophy has been South Australia with over 29 awards, Victoria only winning 6 and Western Australia and New South Wales on only two occasions. Today the Australian wine community acknowledges the Jimmy Watson Trophy as one of the industries most prestigious awards, and the trophy is said to add at least one million dollars to the winning winemakers bottom line.
Buying vintage wines entails inherent buyer risks, and the transportation process can potentially impact the quality and condition of the wine. While we do everything possible to ensure back vintage wines are of the finest provenance, OLD WINES (10 years or older from date of purchase) ARE NOT GUARANTEED IN ANY WAY.
